Building the Boathouse - Part Last

I never completed the series of blog entries I began last Christmas about our ongoing marine construction. I was remiss and for that, I apologize to both my blog followers. ;) With that in mind and so that our written record is more complete, I will add some concluding photos and remarks.

I paid Larry Wade of Wade Marine Construction the final payment for his outstanding work on March 21st. There were a couple of items I wish were done differently, but for the most part it is quality workmanship and I believe it will serve our family for years to come.

Larry's crew covered all of the wood above the deck with vinyl siding - including the cathedral ceiling. The ceiling follows the same slope as the standing metal roof. It is supported by a framework of 4 inch angle iron painted battleship gray. The electricians wired lights above the sink, the boat lift, the deck, and within the closet. There is also a light to assist boaters which is illuminated from dusk to dawn.

The whole project - lake wall, steps, dock, and boathouse

Brenda and I stained all the decking on the dock and boathouse a reddish brown (thanks Stan Carter for the stain). We later added a ladder and docking cleats for arriving boats to tie onto. The bumpers that I bought are not quite right, so this will continue to be a work in progress.

Stan Carter also donated an automatic feeder so that we can begin to train all the fish to come to the dock for a free meal. Additionally, he's volunteered to help me install underwater lights to illuminate the area at night. Before long we will probably have fish literally jumping onto the deck to be caught.

We've spent several days and nights this summer enjoying the lake. There is almost always smooth water for wakeboarding either directly in front of the dock or just behind the peninsula, depending on the direction of the wind. Nights spend sleeping on the deck tend to be filled with gorgeous sunsets, late-night fishing, star gazing, gentle breezes, and waking early to the sunrise.

Here are a few photos from these events:
