The brick and stone work continues. About half the exterior has been completed.
Last Thursday the DeFord Millwork and Lumber truck arrived to deliver the interior doors and lumber for the trim carpenter to use beginning this week. They had some problems with trucks slipping into a shallow ditch at another job site. Then the truck bringing our doors broke down along the way with transmission troubles. The crew and truck carrying our lumber had to retrieve our doors from the stranded truck and return before continuing to their next delivery site.
As I looked over the materials I realized some of the doors they delivered were the wrong style. The salesman arrived Monday to straighten everything out and assured us they would be replaced as soon as possible. The incorrect doors will be hung anyway so that the millwork can continue. The door casings will not be changed and, with the doors in place, the trim around them can be hung. Eventually the correct doors can be changed by simply removing the hinge pins.

The mantle for the interior fireplace arrived on Friday. It has been stained and had a couple coats of sealer applied. It was both cumbersome and heavy, measured seven feet long, and came in two major pieces - the shelf and corbels, and the center panel.
We didn't want to damage either the wall or the mantle, so we all joined in carrying it into the Family Room.
Once the mantle was inside a template was cut and placed on the wall so that the stone work could continue. The boards would serve as a guide for ensuring the stones would surround the mantle and would also remain in place to properly space the mantle slightly away from the wall.

The next day after the mortar was fully dried, the plastic wrapped mantle was placed into the gap in the stone. It was firmly anchored to the wall and held in place with stabilizing boards. Eventually the plastic will be removed and the gap will be filled with mortar.
