Brenda and I just spent the weekend together flying to Sacramento, California. Her brother Raymond married his sweetheart Angie on Friday evening. It was a very nice wedding that focused on the fact that they were blending their two families into one.
I suppose they either don't care for their photographer (me) or feel free enough to allow their personalities to shine through.
Since the wedding was on Friday evening and since Ken and Cindy Huxley had also flown out from Texas, we decided to spend Saturday touring Northern California.
We spent the morning in Old Sacramento which is a section of downtown filled with old buildings which have been restored to their glory days of the old west. It is from this section of Sacramento that the Pony Express began and since it is along the river front, it was the center of commerce.
The "Law" was absolutely necessary to tame the Wild West.
The combination of river transportation and railways made the capitol of California an important center.
After the morning in Old Sac we drove down through Napa Valley and the wine country to the quaint town of Sonoma. The downtown square has gift shops, art galleries, and lots of restaurants. We met Brenda's and Cindy's sister Barbara and her husband Al there for lunch. Every place you looked there were photo opportunities but unfortunately the scene was almost always filled with others strolling by enjoying the beautiful weather.
Here is the alleyway entrance to one of many wine tasting cafes.
We found a cafe with room on the patio for our lunch and a break from the walking tour. We enjoyed the food and conversation for an hour or so.
The state flower California Poppy was in full bloom.
