Framing the House
The slab was lifted on Friday, March 29th and the following Monday, April 1st the framing crew arrived on the site. They snapped chalk lines to designate where the interior walls would lay. They placed pressure treated boards along the bottom of each wall and bolted/nailed them into place. They fastened studs into place along the pre-marked header board and raised each wall into place. By early Monday afternoon when Brenda and I showed up on scene to witness their progress, they had already completed two bedrooms and a bathroom, and had begun laying out several other rooms.
Last week we were both out of town most of the time. With our weekly trek to the Dallas Temple and some rain most of the day on Wednesday, there wasn't much additional progress to report. Still as we each drove out of town on Thursday morning (Brenda to visit the Nydeggers in Austin and me to fly for five days), we stopped by the site to note that the framers had finished most of the downstairs walls.
I heard from the contractor that the crew was rained out on Friday, but they all worked on Saturday. I was surprised, but happy, to hear that. By Monday, April 8th they had started to wrap the lower level with Oriented Strand Board (OSB) and to place the second floor joists into position.
It is amusing to note that for the last two months photos of the foundation didn't show very much progress. But now, while we've been gone only one week, the place is beginning to look more like a house instead of a dirt pile.
Today just before we turned off our telephones to enter the Temple again our contractor forwarded this photo of the roughed-in stairs. We will be remaining in Fort Worth to babysit Ashley's three youngest children on Wednesday before returning home. After almost a week away, I can't wait to get back on-site to pick up some nails and burn some scrap lumber.
