The stone finally arrived after a slight hiccup. The owner of The Rock Pile where we order the stone several weeks ago kept receiving mixed signals from his stone mason who has the contract to work on the house being built across the street from ours. Our builder kept telling him we needed it right away but his mason kept telling him "they haven't even finished framing yet". When we all started singing from the same sheet of music, the sound was much sweeter.
Our brick/stone mason (Bobby, here in the green t-shirt) is the nicest young man who is a master at his craft. I have some very definite ideas about how I want the walls to look - the pattern of the stone, the length of the mortar joints, and the random placement of the rust colored stones. I also have some ideas about the embellishments over and around the windows. I brought some hand drawn designs showing the shaved brick soldiers, the roll-lock bricks, and the placement of bats around the windows.
Here you can see me trying to explain my ideas to Bobby and our builder Zack with drawings, words, and of course, my hands.
From the boat dock our house is mostly hidden by the grove of trees. Still it is taking shape nicely.
In order to finish installing the metal roof panels the chimneys and a half-wall has to be stoned and bricked. Otherwise, the masons couldn't place their scaffolding in place without damaging the roof.
Here Bobby is stoning the exterior of the Isokern chimney. The upper portion of the chimney will be bricked.
