This week some of the subcontractors have been completing their preliminary work. Very soon the spray foam insulation will be applied throughout the house and drywall will cover the studs. It is imperative that everything that needs to be in the walls is in the walls before that time.
In this case the gas lines were run from the service entrance to both tankless water heaters, the cooktop, the indoor fireplace and the outdoor kitchen. Afterwards the system was pressure-tested to ensure there were no gas leaks.
Brenda has been fanatical about cleaning, both inside and out, and it shows! She has an orange Home Depot bucket, a "grapper" to keep from having to stoop over for every little scrap of trash, and of course her broom and dust pan from Dollar General. If we had a dollar for every cigarette butt she's picked up, we would have the house paid for already.
Here is the view from the Family Room looking east toward the Dining Room, Foyer, Library, Stairs, and Kitchen.
This view is from the Media Room (upstairs) with the attic stairs on the left, looking through the stairwell to the raised-platform Alcove and Gameroom.
I decided to install the ethernet cable, television cable, and speakers myself (along with my faithful assistant). I've labeled pretty much everything and encased in PVC conduit those wires passing through walls and areas which will soon be inaccessible.
These wires are for the surround sound system in the Media Room.
This area will have the high definition projector mounted on the ceiling of the Media Room. I'm standing on a slight riser built to accommodate a sofa, raised above the front row seats.
The brick was delivered this week and we are hoping the stone will arrive too, but so far it hasn't. Part of the roof cannot be added until the adjacent brick wall is completed and the brick wall sits on a stone wainscoting. So, ... where is the stone?
The roofers have completed most of the front of the house and are currently working on the rear.
Our friend Steven loaned me his zero-turning radius mower today so I could clean up the lot before my parents and sister arrive next week. What a blast!!!!
It's just like going to the gym, only different.
After mowing around in circles to knock down the tall grass, Steven showed me the art of diagonal sculpting. If I'd had more time and interest I could have gone back one more time on the opposite bias to make it look like a putting green or baseball outfield. Maybe next time.
